The CICS Diploma has been developed to provide counsellors and sexual health medics with a coherent framework for ethical, professional, robust, research based learning and practice in the field of sex and relationship psychotherapy.

Diversity is embedded into everything we do. And that is not just words – we mean it and we can demonstrate it.

Our course incorporates all of the requirements of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapy, (COSRT), to which the Course Directors are closely affiliated. Ali is Vice Chair of COSRT and Julie is Chair of Ethics. The course is undertaking the process of COSRT approval. Routes to COSRT Accreditation are available through CICS.

Our course is designed to meet the requirements of the European Federation of Sexology (EFS) and the European Society for Sexual Medicine, (ESSM), thereby broadening its relevance beyond the UK.

Our Diploma is equivalent to a Level 7 qualification, which is the standard required to work as a psychosexual psychotherapist in the NHS.

The CICS Diploma has been developed to provide counsellors and sexual health medics with a coherent framework for ethical, professional, robust, research based learning and practice in the field of sex and relationship psychotherapy.

Our course will teach you how to work with sex and relationship themes with individuals, couples and multiples.

Our approach is interdisciplinary, combining the biological, psychological and social aspects of sexual and relationship health and wellbeing. With Dr Alireza Tabatabaie as Course Director, the CICS Diploma is the only UK sex and relationship diploma course with a medical doctor as a lead tutor.

Our modality is Pluralism, embracing the value in all approaches to counselling, with an emphasis on the uniqueness of each client, the centrality of relationship and research based practice. Course Director Julie Sale is a UKCP Registrant in Contemporary Psychotherapy, a pluralistic approach.

Our teaching style is a distinctive combination of creativity, warmth and academic rigour. Both Ali and Julie are experienced teachers, well known for their engaging manner and solid knowledge base. Our Eminent Guest Tutors are leaders in their field of expertise.

Our assessment processes allow for a range of styles and personal approaches to learning and are not exclusively essay based. Our students can demonstrate their learning through mind maps, films, drawings, poems, practical demonstration … we don’t have a ‘one size fits all’ philosophy of personal development.

On each Diploma course one of the Course Directors takes a Pastoral Lead role. This means that they attend every course weekend, whether they are teaching or not, to support student well-being and to ensure that group process facilitates rather than hinders learning.

Our connection to the UK sex and relationship therapy world means that we can link our students to a broad range of placement opportunities. In particular our alliance with Local Counselling Centre means that we are able to offer some of our students an NHS psychosexual placement.

The setting of Cambridge, with its beautiful architecture and associations with education, provides a perfect environment for learning and development.

The CICS Diploma Course incorporates the StopSo foundation training for working with sexual offenders and their families.

Fundamentally, we have developed a diploma course that includes the best of all of our personal development experiences with the addition of everything we wish we had when we were training in this field ourselves.

We hope that you agree that CICS is the best choice for your professional development into a fascinating, specialist area of therapy.
